Description:

This project involved the reconfiguration and conversion of consulting rooms and office at the New QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City to create new Elective Procedure Rooms (EPR) for East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The new EPR consists of a block room, 2 elective procedure rooms, patient recovery suite (6 bays) as well as a reception, waiting area and associated rooms which will support the Trust’s initiative to reduce the backlog for day surgery procedures, free up valuable space in operation theatres, improve theatre productivity and reduce waiting list. Undertaken in a live hospital environment whilst the adjacent departments in the hospital remained open, the work involved, new internal partitioning, floors, walls, ceilings build up and finishes as well as new mechanical and electrical installations and a full upgrade of the ventilation system to 10/20 air changes per hour from the standard 4/6 for consulting rooms requiring a new external Air Handling Unit adjacent to the building.
